Muttering and grumbling

“The only way to comprehend what mathematicians mean by Infinity is to contemplate the extent of human stupidity.”

 - Voltaire

I'm easily irritated by lack of intelligence and common sense. More so than usual these days, thanks to this no smoking crap. Wandering about the intertubes, I see so much stupidity and I can't bear it, and I want to snark the shit out of it, preferably in a community of some sort, but I left [livejournal.com profile] stupid_free and [livejournal.com profile] sf_drama because I couldn't stand one more minute of the intensely annoying US-centrism.

[livejournal.com profile] mock_the_stupid
is simply out of the question. It's got [livejournal.com profile] opalcat, for crying out loud. There's more stupidity among the members than in what they mock.

In other words, I'm sorely tempted to set up a non-US-centric community for the pointing and laughing at stupid fuckwits.

By the by, as far as I can tell, it seems almost safe to pay for LJ again. The Russians haven't done anything that's annoyed me in quite a while. And I so miss my icons and my edit option.

Doooooooooooo eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet. Stupid_free and sf_drama are annoyingly US-centric and smug, and there's a truckload of stupidity in the comm itself - most notably, that dissenting voices are always written off as "meta".

And when you've made the comm, advertise for new non-American members in sf_drama! :D

[identity profile] lectrix-lecti.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 01:37 pm (UTC)(link)
ROFLMAO, as the kids say.

Do you know of any not-so-US-centric comms in that vein?

Oh, and I joined a promising comm today, [livejournal.com profile] us_over_here. Go look.

[identity profile] lynkemma.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 01:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, I don't really know of any non-US-centric general snark comms. Specific snarks, sure.

Hmm. I took a look at the other comm - I'm not interested enough in US politics to join, but if it picks up, it'll be worth looking at once in a while. What I *really* want is a politcal comm that concentrates on *global* politics, not just US or Europe. Sort of a debating forum equivalent of what BBW World News is like.

[identity profile] lectrix-lecti.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
That comm isn't purely political, which is what interests me. I'm interested in the outside view, and definitely how it differs from the inside view, which should be mandatory for Americans.

I want a snark comm where Americans are welcome, but need to at all times remember that the US isn't everyone's centre. Location would need to be specified ("Atlanta, Georgia, US", not silly acronyms everyone's expected to know) when relevant. Racism = definition from dictionary, not from American sociology. No auto-belief that "sprog" is a derogatory term, no auto-wank over the spelling of "learnt". And so on and so forth.

Oh, and very, very, very few snarkings of the childfree comms. *yawn*

[identity profile] lynkemma.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Mhm. I'll keep an eye on it and see if it takes off.

Yeah, agreed. And where there wouldn't be an endless array of in-jokes and popularity contests - god, it's like watching everything I believe American high schools to be in action. Also, sprog is derogatory in the US? What's it mean to them?

[identity profile] lectrix-lecti.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I like in-jokes.

Popularity contests, not so much. Wtf, when someone is being a massive pain in the arse I'm not supposed to call them on it because they're considered kewl, since they have this totally awesome icon or something? Yeah, that makes sense...

It's just that a stunning amount of Americans, the rabid childfree included, have got into their heads that sprog is derogatory. There are also many good eggs who know it's not, but in so many childfree wanks someone has to explain to some halfwit that no, it's not derogatory, shut up now please.

[identity profile] lynkemma.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 02:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"Good eggs"? Madam, you read too much Wodehouse. ^^

I think sf_drama has become its own drama and wank factory. About a year ago, when I first joined, there were quite a few good posts, but the place has really degenerated. Ah well, sic transit gloria mundi and so forth.

Daaaaaaaaaaaaaamn I want coffee. /random outburst.

*brief pause*

Hell, I think I'm going to have coffee. BRB, corrupting my nervous system. How's the fag free existence going lately, btw?

[identity profile] lectrix-lecti.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 02:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, I know quite a few young USian whippersnappers who use the term "good egg"...

I note that the username Snarkenfreude isn't taken. Hmm. Hmmmm. Ya think the German touch will scare teh Americuhns?

Enjoy your poison! I'm so so with mine. Had a few last week, and I've smoked today. In my defense, I'm very upset today since I've broken a tooth. V. traumatic.

[identity profile] lynkemma.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? Good heavens. In that case, they read too much Wodehouse, too. Or something. ^^

Snarkenfreude sounds like a brilliant comm name. Go for it!

Nom nom coffee. Nom nom nom. But yeeeep, you've broken a tooth? My sympathies, I know exactly what that feels like. How much of the tooth? Does it hurt? And when are you seeing a dentist?

[identity profile] lectrix-lecti.livejournal.com 2008-10-06 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
But I'm rubbish at pimping comms. It'd be just me. And maybe you.

It doesn't hurt at all, and I'm seeing my dentist tomorrow.

[identity profile] lynkemma.livejournal.com 2008-10-07 09:53 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I'm there now. :-)

Good luck with your tooth.
