I've just paid the deposit for two weeks on Corfu. HELL YEAH.

Is it August soon?

When I was a kid, I read a book by Gerald Durrell, about his childhood years on Corfu. I've wanted to go there ever since. Also, I've wanted to go to Albania since, um, forever. Terribly fascinating country. And hey, there are ferries to-ing and fro-ing between Corfu and Albania all the time! I GET TO GO TO ALBANIA. IN ADDITION TO CORFU.

No, really, is it August soon?

We are most of a certainty not weird. Come on. ALBANIA. What's not to like?

I talked about this with [livejournal.com profile] stirring_still yesterday, and I came to the conclusion that I enjoy ex-dictator-ruled countries. A lot. Enver fucking Hoxha.

I should. Oh yes, I should.

And there's this (http://www.kalinkatours.no/priser/Albania/Tirana/) too, while I'm browsing a certain rather interesting travel agency site.

What, somebody else has read Durrell?! And love his books?! And Leslie and Margo and Larry and their insane friends and Spiro and the insects?!

I plan on forcing my husband to read at least My Family and Other Animals when we're there. You can't be ON CORFU and NOT read DURRELL.

Yes, I've read Durrell. In the orange Penguin paperback version, with yellowed pages and wonderful cover illustrations. Oh, how I want to go to Corfu as well!

Force him. FORCE HIM!!

I can hardly believe I'm going there. Corfu!

He shall read Durrell. And I shall attempt Larry's books. Maybe.

Corfu! Wow, I'd like to go there!

And Albania! Countries like that are interesting etc, unfortunately they're not close to Holland and travelling+camping with kids is hard so we won't go to central or eastern Europe but oh how I'd love to go!
